Capturing the Magic of Dutch Butterflies

Capturing the Magic of Dutch Butterflies

When I created my art print "Butterflies of the Netherlands," I wanted to capture the delicate beauty of these amazing creatures and show how they connect to the world around us. Butterflies are symbols of change and resilience, and the ones in this print—Colias Hyale (Pale Clouded Yellow), Melanargia Galathea (Marbled White), and Euphydryas Aurinia (Marsh Fritillary)—embody these qualities perfectly.

Living in the Netherlands, I’ve had the chance to see these butterflies in their natural habitats, and some of them, like the Marsh Fritillary, are becoming rare. By showcasing them in my artwork, I hope to remind everyone of the importance of protecting these beautiful creatures.

Meet the Butterflies

Let’s take a closer look at each butterfly featured in the print:

  • Colias Hyale – Pale Clouded Yellow
The Pale Clouded Yellow is one of the more common butterflies in the Netherlands, but it’s still a sight to behold. With its soft yellow wings, it flutters gracefully through fields and meadows, bringing a touch of brightness to the landscape. Its presence reminds us of the joy that nature brings.
  • Melanargia Galathea – Marbled White
The Marbled White is a stunning butterfly with bold black-and-white patterned wings. While it was once more common, it’s now becoming rare in parts of the Netherlands due to habitat loss. Its rarity is a reminder of how important it is to take care of our environment.
  • Euphydryas Aurinia – Marsh Fritillary
The Marsh Fritillary is the most endangered of these butterflies. Its orange and black wings are a true work of art by nature. Sadly, this butterfly is becoming harder to find because of habitat destruction and climate change. Seeing a Marsh Fritillary today is a rare and special moment, and that’s why it’s so important to protect these butterflies before they disappear.

    Why These Butterflies?

I chose these three butterflies because they represent the beauty of the Dutch landscape. They play an important role in our environment, and by including them in my print, I want to raise awareness of their beauty and the challenges they face. Art has the power to inspire change, and I hope this print helps to highlight the need for conservation.

The Marbled White and Marsh Fritillary are reminders of how quickly things can change in nature. Their story is about beauty, but it’s also about the need to protect our environment for future generations.

    A Lasting Tribute

When you purchase the "Butterflies of the Netherlands" print, you’re not just adding a beautiful artwork to your space—you’re also helping to keep the memory of these butterflies alive. I carefully choose high-quality, textured paper to bring out the colors and details of each butterfly, so their beauty lasts for many years.

Each print is a tribute to these butterflies and a small way to spread the message of conservation. I hope that when you look at this artwork, you’ll not only appreciate the butterflies but also feel inspired to take care of our planet.

Thank You for Supporting the Art of Nature

It’s a true joy for me to share my love of nature through these butterflies. Whether you’re passionate about butterflies or simply enjoy the beauty of wildlife, I hope this print brings something special to your life.
